Every September Asti transforms for the Douja d'Or, the national wine fair: for ten days the historic centre fills with stands, tastings and visitors from all over Italy. It's the perfect time to discover Piedmont's great reds, and also to stop for dinner at a Piedmontese restaurant in the centre.
Our advice is simple: end your fair day with a dinner that tells the story of this land. Dishes like the agnolotti del plin with roast sauce, the tajarin with porcini mushrooms and the braised Fassona cheek are the gastronomic memory of these hills: full guide on our Piedmontese cuisine in Asti page.
La Douia, on Piazza Medici 27, is a two-minute walk from Piazza Alfieri and the heart of the event. During the Douja we recommend booking a table a couple of days in advance. Back to the La Douia homepage for hours and contacts.
